Project Overview

About This Project

Our first project outside Dhaka: twenty-four apartments on the Khulshi ridge in Chattogram, high enough that the upper floors see the bay over the rooftops. Every unit is a three or four bedroom home with a wide sea-facing living room.

Coastal air is hard on a building, so the specification here is deliberately heavier than our Dhaka projects — and it is the reason we expect this one still to look new in twenty years.

How It Played Out

  1. The Challenge

    Salt-laden coastal air corrodes reinforcement and eats ordinary hardware within a few years, and the site sits on a slope that had to be retained before anything could be built.

  2. Our Approach

    Higher concrete cover with corrosion-inhibiting admixture throughout, marine-grade fixings and powder-coated aluminium externally, over a terraced retaining structure built before the foundation.

  3. The Outcome

    The slope is permanently stabilised and the envelope is specified for the coast rather than adapted from a Dhaka drawing.
